Soroptimist International of Canada West Online is proud to announce that our member Turquoise Chiang was invited by Wear2Start to speak at its upcoming event “Culture Connected: Empowerment Through Identity” on June 18, 2025. The message of the event is to tell the public whether your identity is rooted in ancestry, lived experience, language, gender, creativity, or chosen family, you are encouraged to show up fully and proudly. Through stories, connection, and celebration, the speakers will take audiences to explore how embracing who we are fosters belonging and drives change.

Turquoise is going to be on a panel with some other youth and will be talking about culture and identity and the youth landscape of today. She will touch on how being Chinese and mixed race has affected her and how the pandemic really affected her idea of cultural safety and is one of the reasons she is really passionate about anti-Asian hate and advocacy for Asian communities.
