We Are Soroptimist

Helping women and girls live their dreams

Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award

Live Your Dream Award assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects.

Soroptimist Dream It Be It Mentorship

Dream It Be It program provides career support for high school girls by giving them the tools and resources needed to achieve their education and career goals. We aim to help girls grow up to be strong, successful, and happy adults.

Soroptimist Uplift Her

Soroptimist UpliftHER focuses on an obstacle that women and girls face on their path to formal education and economic empowerment. Focus of October-December: “Intimate Partner Violence”

We believe educated women and girls are:

less vulnerable to sex traffickers

more likely to leave a domestic violence situation and not return

able to access healthcare

less likely to live in poverty

able to raise stronger, healthier families

Our Core Values

Gender Equality

Women and girls live free from discrimination

Empowerment

Women and girls are free to act in their own best interest

Education

Women and girls deserve to lead full and productive lives through access to education

Diversity & Fellowship

Women from varied backgrounds and perspectives work together to improve the lives of women and girls.

The Core Project of Soroptimist Canada West Online Club: “Truth and Reconciliation”

Truth Before Reconciliation Learning Circle

We are educating ourselves about the Indigenous impact of colonization so that we can be better allies, and better guests on these lands.

We meet on the second Saturday of the month, from 9:00 – 10:00 Pacific, to share our responses and reflections about the material we’ve covered.

So far we’ve engaged with

* Honour to Senator Murray Sinclair, a 30 minute film from the National Film Board that summarizes the process and learnings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission

* 4 Seasons of Reconciliation, a 10-part free course available from the Business Development Bank, that delves into what steps individuals and businesses can take to further reconciliation.

* Home On Native Land, from RAVEN, a free 11-part course that brings Indigenous laws and rights to life
